About the Practitioner
Christine Chan, DD
Dr. Christine Chan was drawn to the practice of holistic health over 22 years ago, after natural medicine brought about the complete healing of a debilitating, severe chronic inflammatory joint condition she had suffered from for three years. Since then it has been her heart's desire to help others recover and rebuild their health. She is vividly aware of how we can transform a state of dis-ease into a state of balance and wellness by making the right choices to nourish our body, mind, and spirit. She believes that "mind over body" and "body over mind" both have relevance when it comes to healing and wellness: When you address issues in one area, the other simultaneously begins to improve, because we are not compartmentalized beings but are complex, interconnected, whole beings.
Christine adheres to the precept, "First Do No Harm," and is careful, thorough, attentive, scientific, and knowledgeable. Yet she is also warm-hearted and intuitive in administering health care. She is here to guide, encourage, and support her clients in making good nutritional and lifestyle choices.
Christine has a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and was in the Ph.D. program of Holistic Nutrition at Clayton College of Natural Health. She completed her Doctor of Divinity program in 2000 with an emphasis on Holistic Nutrition Counseling. She is board certified as an Alternative Medical Practitioner, a Fellow and Master Teacher for the Institute of Human Individuality (IfHI - Dr. Peter D'Adamo's organization), and a First Line Therapist. She regularly attends conferences on holistic nutrition and Integrated Functional Medicine; her background in chemistry and math enables her to understand, evaluate, synthesize, and then utilize cutting-edge research in the complex and ever-expanding field of nutrigenomics - a study of how signaling molecules in the food we eat and nutraceuticals we take can positively or negatively influence the outcome of our gene expression.
Christine likes traveling with her family, exploring restaurants, creating healthy dishes, teaching and playing piano, concert-going, attending Bible lessons and worship services, studying human characteristics, giving nutritional advice...knowing and sharing abundant life.
